My Mom's Birthday, Happy Birthday Nermin Bezmen!
Today is my beloved mother Nermin Bezmen's birthday.
She is one amazing woman, a truly wonderful mom, and a gorgeous human being, inside and out. She has been a soft and gentle influence in our lives since childhood and was strong and confident enough to assume the quiet role.
She has proven her genius over and over again via her mothering, partnering, and writing. And the greatest of all is that she is all human: stubborn, vulnerable, and sometimes goofy :)
She is the reason I went into natural childbirth with such confidence and with no drugs at all, eyes wide open: I wanted to be conscious, awake and "there" when welcoming my baby into this world. I wanted to be an active participant in her journey, helping her while she was transitioning from the warm darkness of my womb into the daylight and oxygen. I wanted her to grow up, like I did, hearing stories about how magically beautiful it was becoming her mother. I wanted her story to be around not pain, fear, doctors and drugs, but around love, womanhood, letting go, and confident vulnerability.
As women, we draw our strengths from our mothers. We learn what to become and what not to become from our mothers. We learn our sense of community, femininity, ability, and sacrifice from our mothers. We, in the end, become our mothers.
I am truly blessed that she is my mother and that my 3 year old baby girl has the privilege of knowing her, loving her, being loved by her and calling her "my friend" :)

My mom's best selling novels have been translated into numerous languages, and the TV show "Kurt Seyit & Shura" based on her same-named novel is currently a hit in Turkey, expected to do just as well in neighboring countries where it's scheduled to start viewing on major TV channels. I look forward to the day her novels will be on the US market as well, so the readers of this great country can also travel into the magical world she has created between the covers of her books and appreciate what a wonderful mom I've got! :)

This sessions was a gift for Su Duru (3) and Balkan (1) by a dear friend of their Mommy & Daddy.
In my opinion it is one of the best gifts you could give a family.
These two darlings will grow up in no time, and the days they are rolling and polling and snuggling in their diapers will be way gone.
I hope that my images will bring back these happy memories to them again and again for many, many years to come.
I believe that young life's memories need to be reinforced in order not to be forgotten.
Most of my youngest memories come from stories coupled with childhood photos I grew up seeing.
If you are ever unsure about what to get as a gift for a family you love, I highly recommend getting them the gift of photography.
It is one gift they will never, ever grow out of, and it will keep getting more valuable over time.

Professional Portraits, by Pamira Bezmen. Cenk Aydin was named one of the most influential and powerful young global leaders in the world in 2010 by the World Economic Forum. He is a dear friend of mine from college and now a client I am proud to have the opportunity to photograph.
I met with Cenk at his office in Bebek, Istanbul (Turkey), situated at the top of a little hill overlooking the Bosphorous. We moved from floor to floor in the office building, looking for the perfect light and setting to not only capture his best portrait, but also to reflect his genuine, elegant and smart syle.
After years of leading financial teams from New York and London, Cenk has recently moved to Istanbul, Turkey, to be close to his darling daughter and to found a financial institution that has a morally driven agenda as well as high standards for financial success.
I am hopeful that the images I have captured adequately reflect Cenk's leadership qualities, as well as his strengths as a trustworthy, moral and smart global leader who prioritizes integrity and the human element of business endeavors.

Baby Asil Hospital Birth - New Jersey Birth and Newborn Photographer
This week has been a very exciting one for me, and for baby Asil's family, as he came a bit ahead of schedule. He overjoyed us all with his wonderful appearance. He is an angel, and I am truly honored and humbled to have had the chance to witness and photograph his first 2 days on earth so far. I cannot wait to see him again in a week's time in my studio.

As a photographer who is also a certified yoga instructor, it is always my pleasure photographing yoga. These images are from the shoot I did for Shannon Elliott Yoga, at Onyx Mind Body. If you are a yoga buff, I would highly recommend taking a class with Shannon. Her studio in Warren, NJ also features a hot room. Namaste!
I shot the first set of images below in their yoga studio during a class. I did a clean, light edit to keep the feeling fresh and suitable to what yoga does for the soul: it refreshes, lifts you up and lightens the heart. Opens you up and brings a sense of calm and fresh joy.
Onyx Mind Body also features a hot room, where I also shot some pictures. It is a darker, more intense room with a more challenging practice. I tried to reflect the same feeling in my images.

Because Time Flies but a Photo Lives
Because time does not stop. For anyone. We are all growing or aging or moving on and along from today, in one way or another.
I was looking at this picture I took, of my darling daughter. She is wearing a hand-knit dress and a hat made by her great-grandmother (my beloved grandmother). These two things were literally the last things she was able make with her aged, trembling hands. And she did it so painstakingly, with her bones aching, her left hand not feeling anything at all. With great dedication, to leave something valuable behind for her little great-grandbaby. Something of her, from her...
That was only several months ago.
Now 90 years old and having aged very rapidly since then, my grandma is not able to make any more dresses or hats.
An extremely talented tailor and a very resourceful woman of the early 20th century, my grandma hand-made all of her family's clothes most of her life. At a time of limited resources and tiny budgets, she dressed her kids so impeccably that everyone thought she shopped the high end designer boutiques of the time. My brother and I grew up wearing jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, cardigans and slippers custom made by our grandmother. Unfortunately those days are passed. Now she spends most of her days resting, and sometimes we are not sure if she remembers exactly who we are.
I am so very thankful to my grandma for so many things. And I am so blessed that I was able to capture this image of my daughter wearing this dress and hat. Because she will grow out of them very soon and she will most likely not remember these days. But we will cherish this image for as long as we live. This will be the picture where Shaya is wearing the dress and hat her great-grandma made for her. This picture will always remind her of how much her great-grandma loved her and how she made something so special just for her.
This, to me, is the gift of photography. The ability to preserve not only a moment in time, but all the valuable things that belong to that moment. The love, the care, the family, the baby that was at that moment. Long after we are gone, these will be kept preserved in this perfect picture. My sweet girl can come back to it again and again, as a teenager, as a woman, as a mother some day, and find us all right here. In the hat, the dress, me behind the camera, her dad right there watching, all of her family loving her endlessly. Forever.
Because time flies, but a photo lives.

Timeless Maternity Portraits by Pamira Bezmen Photography
Pregnancy is one of the most magical times in a woman's life. It is when I felt so empowered and so hopeful. I came ever so in touch with the miracle of life, emerging inside, and I began developing a ton of intuitions, ideas, and feelings, all inspired by the desire to protect, love, and safely deliver into the world my little angel.
Unfortunately I never got professional pictures taken when I was pregnant. And I did not even know they could look so amazing. I took some selfies, and I am very glad I did because I will forever cherish those images. Now I show those pictures to my baby, and at 2.5 years old, she is beginning to understand that she was once a part of my body. I am fairly certain that as she grows older, she will find greater meaning and beauty in those images.
Recently I had the honor of picturing a beautiful mama-to-be with her glorious belly. Here are some of those pictures in the slideshow below. I am convinced that every mama who can set aside the budget should have this wonderful time photographed professionally. It is beautiful, magical, sexy, and there is something so powerful about it that I don't even have the right words to describe it.
If you are a mama, you will know exactly what I mean! :)

Thankful Everyday
Just in time for Thanksgiving, my new web site is shaping up. My holiday project list is getting busier. My clients are wonderful. My studio is stacked. My ideas are many. And my home is full of peace, health, and love. How can I not be deeply grateful!
I am one who gives thanks every day. I say a little prayer. Sometimes a long one. Most often a very long one. I also pray that 'those without' also find happiness and contentment, for we all have our own cross to bear, and I have learned to be just as thankful for what I don't have. Because sometimes "not having" is precisely what I need - in order to learn and to grow into my higher potential.
I ask for the health, mind, heart, and passion to do what I do, and to live an authentic, meaningful life. To be a good person. To be a good mother. To be a good photographer. To have many opportunities to do right, to spread happiness, and to make a positive influence in this lifetime. I ask for opportunities to grow and to help. I ask for enough good clients to stand on my own two feet and enough prosperity that I can afford to do good for those who are less fortunate. I ask that my baby be well and happy, and that we are all blessed as the human kind. I ask that we are all kind towards one another and Mother Nature.
Deep down from my core, I know for a fact that the only thing that matters is Love. I hope that I am able to capture some of it in my photography and to spread it via my work. Because what touches one heart will eventually spiral out and put smiles on other faces. It will cause kindness and caring from the lips of one to the heart of another.
Here I am, humbled, grateful, my heart swelling with LOVE. Thankful for my family, my photography, my life, friends, clients, teachers, this beautiful and bountiful world, and everything that is pure and divine. Yes, there are still many things I hope to have and wish to accomplish, and I will work hard for them, but tonight, when I put my head on my pillow, I will say: "Lord, Mother, Universe: THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! <3"
